Annual Physicals

Annual Physicals: Your Health Check-In for the Year Ahead

An annual physical is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your long-term health. They are designed to help identify potential health concerns early, monitor existing conditions, and create a personalized plan to support your overall well-being.

Whether you feel perfectly healthy or have concerns you’d like to discuss, an annual physical provides an opportunity to take a proactive approach to your health with a trusted medical provider.

Why Are Annual Physicals Important?

Many serious health conditions develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Annual physical exams allow providers to evaluate your overall health, review risk factors, and identify potential concerns before they become more significant problems.

Regular preventive care can help detect and manage conditions such as:

Annual visits also help establish a baseline for your health, making it easier to track changes over time.

A Preventive Approach to Healthcare

At Bethany Medical Clinic, we believe healthcare should focus not only on treating illness but on helping patients maintain health and prevent future problems.

Our providers work collaboratively with patients to identify opportunities for improving wellness through:

By taking a proactive approach, patients can make informed decisions that support their long-term health goals.

Preparing for Your Annual Physical: Do's and Don'ts

To help you get the most out of your appointment, here are a few recommendations before your annual physical exam.

Do:

Bring a List of Medications and Supplements: Include any prescription medications, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and supplements you regularly take.

Be Prepared to Discuss Your Health History: Your provider may ask about personal and family medical history, recent symptoms, lifestyle habits, and any changes in your health since your last visit.

Write Down Questions or Concerns: Many patients forget to mention symptoms or concerns once they arrive. Consider making a list beforehand so you can discuss everything that is important to you.

Bloodwork: Fasting but Stay Hydrated: We ask all patients to fast for 6 hours prior to their physical as bloodwork is generally taken at the time of visit. Being hydrated is especially important so we encourage you to drink lots of water (only!) before your appointment. Please note that bloodwork is sent to outside labs for processing. We partner with P4 Labs, Labcorp, and Quest.

Bring Relevant Medical Records: If you have recently seen another provider, undergone testing, or had imaging studies completed, bringing those records can help ensure comprehensive care.

Don’t:

Don’t Ignore Symptoms: Even if a concern seems minor, your annual physical is an excellent opportunity to discuss symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, brain fog, weight changes, digestive concerns, or changes in mood.

Don’t Assume Feeling Fine Means Everything Is Fine: Many common health conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and thyroid disorders, may develop without obvious symptoms.

Don’t Skip Recommended Screenings: Preventive screenings are one of the most effective ways to identify health concerns early, when treatment is often most successful.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions: Your annual physical is an opportunity to better understand your health. We encourage patients to actively participate in discussions about their care and treatment options.
